Who We Are |
We are a student led publication. This means that we are learning skills such as design, photography, copy writing and editing, journalism, marketing, publishing, and leadership. We are still learning and mistakes can happen. We meet Monday - Friday for approx. 55 minutes, fifth period. We are located in room 102 and work on 2014 iMacs, designing our book with Walsworth Online Design and editing photography in Adobe Photoshop CS6. Our book is distributed in early June usually before the seniors' finals. The theme of the book is kept as a secret until the book is released.

Role of our Adviser |
|
Content |
The purpose of the yearbook is to provide a historical record of the school year but it is also meant to be educational, a reference, a public relations tool, and a fun resource that gives students a record of the year including popular trends, activities, community events, and school and world news in a journalistic manner. Coverage always includes student life, academics, people, clubs, sports, and senior ads. Topics within each section vary year to year. The target audience is the student body with secondary audiences including parents, school personnel, community members, and other scholastic journalism groups. No materials, opinionated or otherwise will be printed that is libelous or irresponsible, that advocates an illegal activity or that the editorial board and/or adviser deems to be in poor taste. The staff encourages and welcomes constructive criticism but reserves the right as the final authority for the content of the yearbook as by California state law ED CODE 48907. Content and editorial decisions will be made by the student editors. All attempts will be made to create accurate work.

Advertising |
We do not accept business advertisements. Parents and families may purchase a personal ad for seniors only. Full page, half-page, and quarter-page ads are available. For detailed and "fine print" information and inspiration/ideas please visit our Senior Ads page under the Shop tab. Payment and ad submissions are due to yearbookforever.com. To avoid missing ads and mistakes, we need ample time to review and check for quality of ads. Deadlines are HARD DEADLINES and we will absolutely not accept late requests or payments. We have professional publisher deadlines that we are responsible for keeping. We provide as much space in the book as possible along with as much time as possible for submissions. Thank you for understanding.

Group/TEAM Photos |
It is the responsibility of the team or program coaches/advisers to provide the yearbook staff with a photo and a row by row full name list for the reference section. Reminders will be posted in the school bulletin, social media, and via email. If your program or team photo is taken by Ralfs Photography, he will provide us with your photo. All other photos not taken by Ralf should be emailed to the [email protected] address with the subject being "YEARBOOK ____(your program/team name) PHOTO 2020". If you submit a team/program photograph with out the line by line name list, your photo will not be included. Deadlines can be found in the deadline tab.
|
Portraits (class picture) |
For juniors, sophomores, freshmen, and all staff/faculty, pictures are taken through Dorian at the beginning of the year and make-up picture day. Please look on the school calendar and daily bulletin for announcements of dates from Mira Costa. If you do not take your picture on one of these designated days, your photo will not be in the yearbook. Seniors take portraits by Ralf's Photography. You should be sent an appointment time in the mail from Ralf. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE EMAIL ADDRESS THAT THE MIRA COSTA HAS IS THE CORRECT EMAIL AND THAT YOU REGULARLY CHECK IT. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME. IT IS UP TO THE FAMILY TO MEET THE DEADLINE OR YOUR PORTRAIT WILL NOT BE IN THE YEARBOOK. The deadline to have your portrait taken by Ralf is announced in the bulletin during the school year and posted on the Mira Costa Website. No late portraits will be accepted. THIS IS A HARD DEADLINE.

Learning Publication |
Because the yearbook is a student production, there may be mistakes. Refunds will not be given for minor errors such as poor photo quality or misspelled names. Exchanges can be made for books with major publishing/printing flaws at no cost. If we have made a major error such as missing seniors ads, the cost of the ad will be refunded, not the price of the book. No refunds on books with missing senior ads or pictures. If an error was made on our part, we will do our best to correct the situation.

Obituary/memorials |
Known deaths of students or faculty members will be acknowledged with the dates of birth and death beside the regular portrait picture in the people section or in the index once only.
